Ecometric Research is a small consulting firm based in Vancouver, BC that specializes in quantitative analysis of ecological data. We work on projects in a variety of systems in British Columbia, in the Colorado River in Grand Canyon, and on the Trinity River and San Francisco Bay Delta in California. Clients include: US Geological Survey, BC Hydro, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, BC Ministry of Environment, and various government agencies in California.

Our primary focus is on investigating the effects of physical and biological processes on recruitment in freshwater fishes. In particular, we are interested in how flow regimes in regulated rivers influence growth, movement, survival, and reproduction. We run several large multi-year field efforts, and interpret data from these projects using models and other quantitative tools.

  • We also develop models and decision support tools for fisheries stock assessment and management. Examples include:management strategy evaluations to compare harvest strategies
  • Mark-recapture modelling
  • Bayesian spatial and temporal hierarchical models to estimate effort and catch in the BC salmon sport fishery
  • Integration of mark-recapture and radio telemetry data to estimate steelhead and salmon escapement
  • Integration of genetic stock identification and coded wire tag data to estimate basin-wide Chinook escapement population viability models
